About the trail

The Forest Trail was laid out by Baltic partners in cross-border cooperation projects as an inland companion to the Baltic coastal route. It links all three Baltic states, starting on the Polish-Lithuanian border near Lazdijai and finishing in Tallinn, and it doubles as the Baltic section of the European long-distance path E11.

Most of the walking is through pine and spruce forest, river valleys and lake country, broken by farmland, manor parks and small towns. The landscape changes slowly rather than dramatically, which suits walkers who want long quiet days and a sense of crossing whole countries on foot.

The official site gives 2,141 km in total, 747 km in Lithuania, 674 km in Latvia and 720 km in Estonia, and estimates 102 to 114 days for the whole route. It is divided into sections of about 20 km, designed as one-day or two-day walks.
