About the trail

The State Forest Management Centre (RMK) built this route to cross Estonia from north to south through its forests, bogs and coastline. It starts at the RMK visitor centre at Oandu in Lahemaa National Park, near the Gulf of Finland, and ends at Ikla on the Gulf of Riga, where Estonia gives way to Latvia.

The trail passes the raised bogs of Viru and the Kõrvemaa heathlands, where a boardwalk of more than 3.5 km crosses the Kakerdaja bog, and continues through the Sakala uplands and Soomaa National Park, known for its vast bogs and spring floods. The final section follows the shore of Liivi Bay, with bird migration over the coast in autumn.

RMK gives a length of 370 km in seven sections. The trail is equipped with free RMK campsites, campfire sites and forest huts, so it can be walked self-sufficiently; the official page does not suggest a number of days.

No source gives the days on foot, so they are worked out from the length at 20–25 km a day.
