About the trail
The Transcarpathian Tourist Trail crosses the Ukrainian Carpathians from Velykyi Bereznyi in the Uzh valley, close to the Slovak border, to Hoverla, at 2,061 m the highest peak in Ukraine. Much of the way follows the open mountain pastures known as polonynas, over Polonyna Rivna, the Bieszczady, the Vododilnyi ridge, Polonyna Borzhava, a corner of the Gorgany, Polonyna Krasna, Svydovets and finally Chornohora.
The trail is waymarked in red along its whole length, and the guidebook author Adam Rugała divides it into ten stages, from 12.5 km between Mizhhirya and Synevyr to 50 km in the Bieszczady between Dubovyi Hai and the Uzhok Pass, for a total of 315 km. In 2025 the Zakarpattia regional administration presented a cycling route conceived as a modern alternative to this popular walking trail.
No source gives the days on foot, so they are worked out from the length at 20–25 km a day.
