About the trail
The route crosses northern England coast to coast, mostly along or close to the line of the second-century wall. The central section over the Whin Sill crags offers the best preserved remains, with forts such as Housesteads and Vindolanda a short distance from the path.
The wall is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and walkers are asked to stay off it and to keep away in the wettest months, when the grass over buried remains wears through easily.
