About the trail

Roztocze is a belt of rolling hills, beech and fir woods and loess ravines that runs from the Lublin region into Ukraine. The Central Roztocze Trail follows it lengthwise through Western and Middle Roztocze, by Zwierzyniec, Wapielnia hill, Bełżec, Lubycza Królewska and Wola Wielka, to the spa town of Horyniec-Zdrój.

The scenery changes every few kilometres. The trail crosses Roztoczański National Park, threads through Piekiełko, a maze of loess gullies, climbs Wapielnia, the highest hill of Middle Roztocze, and passes the hillfort at Sąsiadka and Szczebrzeszyn Landscape Park. Słona Góra looks out over the Wieprz valley, and the Cetnar forest once sheltered Home Army partisans.

The Lublin regional tourism organisation lists the route as a 195 km blue-marked trail. Radio Lublin, reporting its place on National Geographic's list of Poland's 15 best hiking routes, puts the walk at five to seven days and warns that the loess tracks become heavy going after rain.
