About the trail
Laid out and waymarked in 1999 by Kate Clow, the path links old mule tracks and Roman roads past the tombs and theatres of Lycian cities, with long stretches high above the sea. It passes the UNESCO-listed sites of Xanthos and the Letoon, the ruins and long beach at Patara, the harbour town of Kaş, the Kekova coast and the natural gas flames of the Chimaera above Olympos.
The path is marked with red and white stripes and is rocky and steep in many places, with few villages on some stages. Summer heat makes it hard going, so most people walk in spring or autumn, often in sections. The route has been extended several times since it opened.
