About the trail

Since the time of the Guanches, the Royal Road of Chasna linked the north and south of Tenerife and carried goods for barter, and the Anaga-Chasna Nature Trail follows part of this old way across the island. The route moves from the lush woods of the Anaga range, a Biosphere Reserve since 2015, to the volcanic landscapes around Teide, at 3,718 m the highest peak in Spain.

From the main square of La Esperanza the first stage climbs gently towards La Caldera, then the trail enters the Corona Forestal Natural Park and runs through the Cañadas del Teide in Teide National Park, a World Heritage Site since 2007, before descending to the historic quarter of Arona.

Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food gives the trail as around 93 km in five sections and places its steepest ascent after Siete Fuentes. It is one of the two long-distance trails on Tenerife.
