About the trail
The Sunshine Coast Trail stretches for 180 km through the backcountry of British Columbia's upper Sunshine Coast, from Sarah Point on Desolation Sound to Saltery Bay. It was begun in 1992, when a small group founded what is now the qathet Parks and Wilderness Society and started building paths to link the region's remaining stands of old-growth forest.
The route leads through old-growth forest to panoramic mountaintops and is described as Canada's longest hut-to-hut hiking trail, with 14 huts and another planned. It is also the only free trail of its kind, and the society welcomes donations towards its upkeep.
No source gives the days on foot, so they are worked out from the length at 20–25 km a day.
