About the trail
Gunung Rinjani rises to 3,726 m on the island of Lombok and lies within Gunung Rinjani National Park. Its caldera holds Segara Anak, a crater lake regarded as sacred by the Balinese and the Wetu Telu people, with the young cone of Mount Baru rising from its waters.
Sembalun Lawang and Senaru are the two starting points, and the summit is best reached from Sembalun. Indonesia's official tourism site describes three-day routes as well as a summit trek of four or five days that finishes in Senaru.
Climbers register online through the eRinjani system of the national park office, which opens and closes individual trails according to conditions; in October 2026 it reopened the Senaru trail after a forest fire.
Length measured on the OpenStreetMap line; no official figure checked yet.
