About the trail
The Rennsteig follows the crest of the Thuringian Forest and Thuringian Slate Mountains and is one of Germany's oldest and best-known hiking routes. It is signposted with a white R on a green ground.
Walkers usually split it into four, six or eight stages.
No source gives the days on foot, so they are worked out from the length at 20–25 km a day.
