About the trail
The Outeniqua Hiking Trail runs through the forests of the Garden Route National Park, inland from Knysna on South Africa's southern coast. It starts at Beervlei in the upper reaches of the park and ends at Harkerville, and it can be walked in full over seven days or broken into shorter sections and day walks.
SANParks provides rustic huts along the way for those doing the full trek, stocked with firewood and supplied with water and basic bedding. A two-day option, the Millwood Overnight Trail, uses a 15.5 km section of the route to Millwood Hut and returns on a second day of about 15 km. Permits are issued by the SANParks regional office on Thesen's Island in Knysna.
Length measured on the OpenStreetMap line; no official figure checked yet.
