About the trail

The trail loops through the Naukluft massif, a range of dolomite and limestone on the edge of the Namib, with deep kloofs, dry riverbeds and high plateaus. It is known as one of Namibia's hardest hikes: water is scarce, the ground is rough and a few steep pitches are climbed with the help of chains. Hartmann's mountain zebra, kudu and klipspringer live in the range.

Namibia Wildlife Resorts runs the trail from its Naukluft camp, with simple shelters at the overnight stops. The longer 8-day version crosses the high plateau, and the shorter version is meant for hikers with less time. Summer temperatures are extreme, so the trail is walked in the cooler months.

Length measured on the OpenStreetMap line; no official figure checked yet.
